The Company Your Neighbors Recommend

A/C installationProper air conditioning installation isn’t as simple as taking the unit out of the box and plugging it in. It requires care and attention to detail to ensure that the unit will function properly year after year. To that end, the following are four factors that determine whether or not an air conditioner has been properly installed and will work the way you want it to.

System Size

It’s imperative to properly size the air conditioner for your home. If it’s too small, it won’t cool the home down properly. If it’s too large, you’ll be wasting energy throughout the year. Thus, you’ll want to select an air conditioner that is matched to the amount of cubic feet you intend to cool. Your HVAC contractor should perform a Manual J calculation to make this determination.

Ductwork

Even if you have the best air conditioner available, it still requires a proper transport network to get the cool air into your home and circulate the warm air over the evaporator coil. Thus, you need to make sure your ducts are in good condition and that there aren’t any leaks or breaks in the ductwork.

Airflow

Each air conditioner comes with a recommended airflow rate. This needs to be adjusted so that your system is efficiently moving air throughout the home. This further ensures that the airflow over the evaporator coils is sufficient to keep you cool and comfortable throughout the summer.

Refrigerant

This critical element within the air conditioner needs to be measured carefully. Too much coolant and the system could spring a leak. Too little and it won’t cool the air efficiently. The system needs to be charged with the precise amount of refrigerant, otherwise you’ll have inefficient capacity and higher energy expenses.
